The results of this study show that the most commonly used Leverett-J model is one of the poorer performing saturation-height functions. Of the conventional "equation based" approaches, the Thomeer and Skjaeveland models appear to have the most utility and are recommended as first choice saturation-height models to test.

In order to characterize the pore structure of complex carbonate, a modified multimodal Thomeer pore size distribution (PSD) function was developed, which was based on the multimodal Gaussian density function and three controlling parameters including peak position, peak height and full width at half maximum (FWHM). Saturation-height functions in oil and gas reservoirs are determined using methods that include quantifying the microporosity of the subterranean formation; determining the distribution of facies Selection of Saturation-Height Models - Leverett-J, Brooks-Corey, Lambda, Thomeer, Skjaeveland, Machine Learning & Neural Networks, Interpolation Saturation-Height Function Creation - Model Fitting, Individual Curve Correlation Method, All Curves Simultaneously Method, Problems with Parameter Selection, Recommended Initial Parameters for the These functions calculates Sw based on one or more of the parameters like porosity, oil water contact, gas water contact, irreducible water saturation, height above contacts, etc. Saturation Data Interpretation Thomeer Curve Fitting: Rock Typing • Thomeer model is extensively used to fit the Pc curves (hyperbolic function) for saturation height modelling and rock typing • Fitted curves are defined by the pore structure factor (G), threshold pressure (Pd) and the total interconnected pore volume (Sb∞) (Bulk Volume saturation The residual oil saturation as a function of the initial oil saturation, f(S oi). This relationship can be determined experimentally. The S oi /S or relationship model includes Land’s type, Suzanne type (plateau type), and Linear correlation type.

Over the years different methods were developed to describe the changing water saturation in the reservoir with height above the free water level and also taking the reservoir quality into account. The saturation plateau as a function of local disorder for six contrasting kaolinites exposed to He + ion beam is shown in the inset of Fig. 4.4.The defect concentration at saturation increases with the local crystalline disorder of kaolinite, as estimated from structural Fe 3 + local probes (Gaite et al., 1997).

Square Root K/Ø Methods: Leverett J Function and Flow Zone Indicator (FZI) Technique Whereas the Thomeer method has been used for many years in Shell, in other companies the Leverett J Function method ( Leverett, 1941 ) and the related FZI technique Thomeer (1983), as well as Polynomial, Sigmoidal, Exponential (e.g., Skelt and Harrison, 1995) and Hyperbolic functions. These functions have been found useful for describing saturation-height (i.e., P c) relationships in specific field cases, but they may suffer from limitations such as poor matches of threshold pressure and irreducible Pore structure of carbonate reservoirs is complex and multimodal.

The two best known methods to analyze MICP measurements and to estimate saturation height curves are Thomeer-and Leverett J functions. However, neither method has been satisfactorily upscaled until

The authors investigate performance of eight saturation-height methods (i.e., Leverett, Cap-Log, Modified Cap-Log, Johnson, Cuddy, Modified Cuddy, Skelt-Harrison, and Sodena methods) employed in the oil industry.
